As a pre-teen, Bobby loved the music of Red Foley, Ernest Tubb, and other country music artists. Among the “backup groups” he liked as a teenager, were the legendary Jordanaires. Further, in the 1960s, the Jordanaires were to be Bobby Wayne’s own backup group, they actually provided support on 12 songs included on the Bobby Wayne Ballad of the Appaloosa album. That album’s title song, the Ballad of the Appaloosa was selected as the theme song for the Disney movie Run Appaloosa Run.
This was after getting exposed to Elvis Presley’s music. It then happened when he went to visit his mother in Atlanta, Georgia. When he went back to Spokane, Bobby started performing his own rockabilly songs. This made the fans of the Pacific Northwest enjoy a taste of rockabilly music. After this visit, he went to the studio and recorded ‘ Sally Ann’ and ‘War Paint’. He then joined Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and Rick Carty as one the first actual recording “rockabilly” These are among the most famous artists in the world. Early in Bobby’s career, his style was so much like that of Johnny Cash, Listen carefully to his recordings ‘Big Train’ and ‘Half Bread’. Within ten days of ‘Big Train‘, Bobby received a contract from Columbia Records. This is when The vice president of Columbia Records in New York heard the songs and liked them very much. He received the Academy of Country Music Award for New Male Artist of the year.
