Crown is a native of Coshocton, Ohio, and attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania where she attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Communications and a minor in Public Relations. For her documentary on the Downtown Rescue Mission, she won the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2017. Furthermore, she was a member of the team that produced a 30-minute special on the help and healing that happens within the walls of the mission.
July 13, 2017, is her proudest moment as it was the day when prosecutors dropped burglary charges against a man misidentified in a 2016 case after the man’s mom had requested WHNT News 19 assistance to prove her son’s innocence. Crown worked on the case for four months so as to convince the prosecution and the defense that the man was innocent. When she finally succeeded, she was very happy and remembers the case to date.
Courtney covered the Florida Panhandle while she was in Dothan, Alabama. Additionally, during her time in Dothan, Alabama she was awarded two Florida Associated Press Awards; for Best Hard News Feature, and for Best Series Reporting. The Best Series Reporting was awarded to her for her interview on the participation in re-entry programs with the present and former Florida prison inmates. Furthermore, she was honored with the Best Hard News Feature for working together with a former co-worker to cover the bodies being exhumed at the infamous Dozier School for boys in Marianna, Florida.
