Darlene Rodriguez is an American journalist serving as a co-anchor of Today in New York on WNBC 4 News for the past 15 years. The show airs every weekday between 4 and 7 in the morning. Rodriguez, one of the most well-known local television journalists in New York, is a multiple Emmy® Award winner with strong ties to the area. For more than two decades, viewers of NBC 4 New York have relied on her knowledge, skill, and professionalism.

Rodriguez graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1988 and earned a degree in broadcast journalism and political science from the University of Miami in 1992. Rodriguez currently serves as a correspondent at WNBC 4 News in New York. Rodriguez spent a full week in Puerto Rico covering the relief and rehabilitation work after Hurricane Maria devastated the Island in 2017. Darlene was one of the first Tri-State broadcast journalists to visit the island. Rodriguez went back to Puerto Rico in connection with Hurricane Maria’s one-year anniversary to document the recovery and rebuilding process and conduct interviews with important government authorities and community leaders. The National Hispanic Media Coalition honored her in 2018 with a coveted Impact Award for “Excellence in Broadcast Journalism” for her coverage of Puerto Rico’s recovery and her dedication to the community.
In addition, Rodriguez has covered many of the Tri-most State’s notable stories throughout her twenty years at NBC 4 New York. Included in this are the Amadou Diallo police shooting in 1999, the 9/11 attacks, and the crash of Flight 587 in Queens when it was on its way to the Dominican Republic. When news of the fights between locals and the U.S. Navy emerged, Rodriguez was the first Tri-State television reporter on the scene in Vieques, Puerto Rico. She later made four additional trips to report on the ensuing developments. Rodriguez has also traveled to Rome in order to cover Pope John Paul II’s meeting with American Cardinals about the sex abuse problem in the Catholic Church. She also went to Cuba in 2015 to cover Pope Francis’ visit there. She subsequently received a New York Emmy® nomination for her in-person reporting from Cuba.

Rodriguez was a stand-in newsreader on Weekend TODAY and contributes frequently to the TODAY Show, where one of her segments has been nominated for a national GLAAD award. She worked as a general assignment reporter for WCBS 880 AM for four years before joining NBC 4 New York. Rodriguez spent a year as a reporter for the cable television network BronxNet before that, where she covered some of the most interesting stories concerning the borough’s politics, development, and renaissance.
Darlene was the winner of El Diario La Prensa’s 2011 “Mujeres Destacadas (Distinguished Women) Award” for her dedication to community involvement and journalistic achievement. Her coverage of the Hispanic community also garnered her a “Latina Excellence” Award from Hispanic Magazine in 2000. She was honored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bronx Borough President, the City of New York, and the City of White Plains for prominently and proudly representing the Hispanic community in her professional and charitable endeavors. She also received numerous awards from the New York Police Department and the NYPD’s Hispanic Society.
Rodriguez supports the Cristian Rivera Foundation and is connected with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley, both of which are organizations working to find a treatment for a rare brain tumor that kills young children. In addition, Rodriguez actively collaborates with the New York Urban League and the American Heart Association of Westchester. She also co-chairs WNBC’s annual Supporting our Schools school supply drive.
