This anchor first got her first journalism job in her hometown of Dallas, winning very many Young Authors Contests and showing her energy in plays at Duncanville High School. After graduating from University, she joined KOMU-TV in Columbia as an anchor and reporter, then she spent two years at KTAL in Shreveport, Louisiana. While still in the Bayou State, Erica covered Hurricanes Gustav and Isaac, and she as well reported on the front lines of a national police-involved shooting in the town of Homer.
She came to ABC13 after working at WJAX-WFOX in Jacksonville, Florida. Here, she had worked so hard that she received two Emmy nominations, one for team coverage spot news and the other for team coverage during Hurricane Matthew. Some of her most memorable interviews are with Civil Rights icon Andrew Young and NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald among others. Erica serves as Vice President of Multimedia for the Houston Association of Black Journalists. She is also part of the Missouri Alumni Association. Simon also mentors the Houston ISD’s ROSES program, which helps girls of color move about their personal and educational lives. Her hobbies include seafood, traveling, and hanging with her husband, two-year-old daughter, and Dalmatian named Sampson.
