Janice Huff Biography

Janice Huff is an American journalist serving as the Chief Meteorologist for NBC 4 New York and one of the most well-known and dependable weather forecasters in the country. Huff provides weather forecasts for the station’s newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. Huff joined WNBC from KRON-TV, the station’s primary on-air meteorologist since 1991. KRON-TV is an NBC affiliate in San Francisco. Janice started working there in 1990.

Janice Huff Career

Huff currently contributes to WNBC 4 News. Originally from Manhattan, Huff earned a degree in meteorology from Florida State University in Tallahassee. Huff is a member of the Hall of Fame of the New York State Broadcasters Association and has been giving Tri-State audiences reliable meteorological information for more than 25 years. She began working at NBC 4 New York in January 1995 and held a number of different positions there.

Huff has received recognition for her work in broadcast journalism and meteorology on a regular basis. Huff was also honored with the prestigious Allen B. Dumont Broadcaster of the Year Award from Montclair State University in 2015 in addition to being inducted into the Hall of Fame of the New York State Broadcasters Association. Huff is the host of Wednesday’s Child, a quarterly adoption program recognized for throwing a bright spotlight on foster children and families. Huff is well known for her devotion to children in foster care.


Huff received recognition in 2011 for her commitment to children in the greater New York City area as well as children all over the world at the “5th Annual Care for Kids Gala” hosted by 1199 SEIU / Employer Child Care Corporation. The “Kids Gala” raised money that was used to assist children’s educational initiatives and services. Huff also received recognition in 2011 for her work on behalf of adoptable children in the New York City region through “Wednesday’s Child” at the “Family Focus Adoption Services (FFAS) Gala.”

Further, Janice was honored in 2012 at the New York City Court Appointed Special Advocates Spring Reception for her commitment to foster care for children (CASA-NYC). “Huff works with CASA-NYC to ensure that foster children are placed in secure, long-term homes in order to protect their needs and overall wellbeing.

Throughout her career, Huff has mentored aspiring journalists. She is a major proponent of giving back to the community. She was recognized by McDonald’s as one of 24 illustrious “Black Media Legends” and given the “2011 Black Media Legends” award. The 2011 Faces of Black History poster from McDonald’s and food tray liners in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut both featured Huff’s image.


Huff has received many awards including; The “W” award from the YWCA of New York City, the “2007 Community Service Award” from the New York Chapter of the National Black Journalist Association, the “2006 Golden Apple Award” from the New York City Chapter of American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT), the “2006 Laura Parsons Pratt Award” from the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, the “2004 Golden Heart Award” from the Administration for Children’s Services, and the “2004 Miracle Makers Media Award”

In addition, Huff was recognized in 2002 as a “Grad Made Good” by Florida State University, her alma mater. She also won the “2002 Woman of the Year Award” from the Police Athletic League, the YMCA’s “Champion for Youth” title in 2000, and the “Spirit of Life” award from City of Hope for setting a positive example for young people in New York City. Huff was recognized as a “Clean Air Hero” by the American Lung Association for her efforts to promote healthier lungs and better air.

The American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television Weather Casting in 1985, a St. Louis Emmy Award for “Best Weathercaster” in 1988, and the Bronx Community College’s “Kaleidoscope Award” for excellence in television meteorology are further accolades. Huff belongs to the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Friars Club, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the National Weather Association.
