Jovana graduated from Loyola Marymount University and initially chose a career in finance, despite her lifelong love of radio. Beginning in Palm Springs, she did weekend work for KESQ. Jovana received a promotion to weekend anchor after reporting for a year. Jovana accepted a second job as a reporter for the Orange County News Channel in an effort to polish her reporting abilities. Up until she was hired to report by KNSD in San Diego, she continued to work in both Palm Springs and Orange County. Jovana won an Emmy during her first year in San Diego for a story about a small village near Tijuana that was destroyed by the 1997 El Nino mudslides. In the same year, two other stories received Emmy nominations. She subsequently received accolades from the San Diego Press Club.
Jovana has experience as a reporter covering everything from in-depth feature stories to breaking news stories about fires, crimes, and natural disasters. She has covered earthquakes, immigration, the visit of the Pope, and ongoing issues with the quality of life in Mexico City and Los Angeles. In May of last year, in addition to covering local news in the field every day, Jovana traveled to Guatemala to conduct in-depth reporting on the challenges faced by illegal immigrants trying to enter Mexico from Central America. Jovana participates on behalf of the station in numerous local events.
