She spends much of her career covering crime stories, most notably the kidnapping and return of Elizabeth Smart.

Scullin went to St. Joseph’s Academy and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science at Syracuse University. She is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and had also enrolled at St. Louis University. Karen began her career inside a TV barn in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and her broadcasting career on September 1994 in Evansville, Indiana where she was an anchor/ reporter for WEHT-TV till January 1998. From 1998 to 2003, she was an investigative reporter at KSL 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in Salt Lake City, Utah. She developed skills to break down complex layers of information into a script that was clear, compelling, and credible. Scullin also worked as an anchor/ reporter at KYW CBS 3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for 2 years since 2003. Moreover, she joined KMSP-TV Fox 9 in August 2015 working as an anchor/ reporter/ writer.
Every day on deadline, Karen writes creative and compelling scripts airing on the early and l; late newscasts. She also steps into a managing editor on weekends supervising and reviewing or editing scripts and stories. Moreover, Scullin also manages expectations followed by weekend staff and her on-air duties include storytelling and anchoring evening newscasts. Additionally, she assists in editing videos and choosing the best shots and effects for the story. She also speaks at engagements and appearances for several groups around the metro area.
