O’Connell attended Cretin-Derham hall in 2003 and from The University of Minnesota, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish in 2007. Her broadcast career commenced on June 2006 as an on-air intern at KIMT-TV for three months and an intern at WCCO-TV the same year. On August 2007, Kelly moved to Columbus, Georgia Area where she worked as a reporter for WRBL-TV for about two years and a month.
Kelly was later promoted to an anchor of a 3-hour morning show and noon show at KGAN-TV, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Eventually, in September 2012, O’Connell moved to Seattle to work for KCPQ-TV as a morning anchor and reporter. The journalist then landed in Eden Praire in October 2015 and started working for Fox 9 News where she has gained experience for about 7 years now with a few months. Additionally, Kelly is also involved in voluntary work where she was a child life volunteer at Seattle Children’s for a year in January 2014.
