Brunhuber, a published novelist, graduated from Carleton University with a bachelor’s and a master’s in journalism. In 2004, he released a book titled Kameleon Man. In that capacity, he covered important domestic and international news events for the CBC’s television, radio, and online platforms, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the 2018 and 2016 Olympic Games, and Nelson Mandela’s passing. He covered a number of mass shootings in the US, including those in Thousand Oaks, California, San Bernardino, and Las Vegas, Nevada. His coverage of the Southern California wildfires in 2017 was recognized with a 2018 National Press Club Award in the area of breaking news broadcasts.

Brunhuber spent 13 years at CBC News where he had both reporter and anchor positions. He began his professional career in 1997 at CTV, where he worked in Ottawa and Halifax. In Sierra Leone, Brunhuber served as a senior trainer for Journalists for Human Rights, a media development group, between his stint at CTV and the CBC. He subsequently worked as a freelance journalist and producer for several years, reporting news, providing live commentary, and producing short films from all over the world, including places like Pakistan, Mali, Ghana, and Afghanistan.
