Ligon began her career as an entertainment host for WDIV in metro Detroit, her hometown area, before working her way to the Gulf Coast. Later on, she worked in Youngstown, at WKBN as a reporter OH. Lenise then moved on to WNEM in Saginaw, MI, working again as a reporter and anchor. She then had a three-year stint at WBTV in Charlotte. Here, she was a co-anchor of the morning and noon newscasts. Ligon went to Michigan State University where she got a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in Spanish.
She has received many awards for volunteering in community work. Some of them are; speaking to school children and participating in community-based organizations. To begin her career, she first worked as a general assignment reporter in Youngstown from 2000-01 where she covered breaking news events, determined locations for written assignments, and researched and oversaw the final production of all packages.
