Lil Durk is an American singer and rapper. His birth name is Durk Derrick Banks. He is the founder and main contributor to the group and record label Only The Family (OTF). With the release of his Signed to the Streets mixtape series (2013–2014), Durk developed a cult following that led to a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. Before Durk left Def Jam in 2018, the label would release his first two studio albums, Remember My Name (2015) and Lil Durk 2X (2016).

Early Years
Durk began considering music as a career in 2011. He pondered rapping as “a full-time job” after the release of his two singles, “Sneak Dissin'” and “I’ma Hitta,” each of which earned generally favorable reviews, after plans to sign with Chief Keef’s and French Montana’s labels fell through. Life Ain’t No Joke, Durk’s third mixtape, was made available on October 19, 2012. Over 216,000 people have downloaded the mixtape as of September 22, 2015, according to DatPiff. Further, The song “L’s Anthem,” which was remixed and features French Montana, was re-released by Durk in December 2012.
2013–2015: Signing to OTF and Def Jam Recordings and Signed to the Streets
Due to the success of “L’s Anthem” and its follow-up single, “Dis Ain’t What U Want,” Durk agreed to a joint venture with Def Jam Recordings and his group Only the Family in 2013.
Further, Durk’s fourth mixtape, Signed to the Streets, was finally released on October 14, 2013, only on DatPiff, following a few minor delays. Along with Paris Bueller, Young Chop, and other producers, it has two cameo performances from Lil Reese, a former Glo Gang affiliate. Eight music videos, including “Bars Pt. 2,” “Oh My God,” “100 Rounds,” “Dis Ain’t What U Want,” “Bang Bros,” “Traumatized,” “Hittaz,” and “Times,” were made available to promote the mixtape. Later, Rolling Stone would rank Signed to the Streets as the eighth-best mixtape of 2013.
In addition, Lil Durk revealed he was putting the finishing touches on his Def Jam debut album in an interview with XXL on October 22, 2013. Durk was also included in the 2014 XXL Freshmen Class. Signed to Streets 2, Durk’s sixth mixtape was made available on July 7, 2014.
2015–2016: Remember My Name and Lil Durk 2X
Durk confirmed the title of his first studio album, Remember My Name, and its initial release date of May 12 on March 25, 2015. The album’s lead song, “Like Me,” with Jeremih, was made available on the same day. On April 20, 2015, Durk presented the official album cover and stated that the release date of Remember My Name had been moved to June 2. He also stated that the original release date of May 12 had been postponed.
Remember My Name, Durk’s debut album, was officially published on June 2, 2015, as scheduled. The album sold 24,000 copies in its first week, with the remaining units being made up of track sales and streaming activity. It debuted at number fourteen on the Billboard 200 with 28,000 equivalent album units. Additionally, on December 15, 2015, Durk released his sixth mixtape, 300 Days, 300 Nights. The mixtape’s lone track, “My Beyoncé,” which includes the rapper Dej Loaf from Detroit, was made public. The track was made available on November 20, 2015. Early in 2016, a music video for “My Beyoncé” was made available.
Additionally, on July 22, 2016, Lil Durk issued his second studio album, titled Lil Durk 2X. Durk released a number of mixtapes throughout the course of 2017: Love Songs for the Streets in February, Supa Vultures, a joint project with Lil Reese in August, Signed to the Streets 2.5 in October, and Bloodas, a joint project with Tee Grizzley in December.
On March 29, 2018, Durk made the following announcements: Just Cause Y’all Waited, his debut mixtape. Was to be released for digital purchase, and his twelfth mixtape would be released the following day at midnight. He also stated that he completed his obligations under his contract with Def Jam Records at that time. Free agent Durk released Just Cause Y’all Waited the next day only on Apple Music and the iTunes Store.
Durk announced on July 27th, 2018, that he had signed with Alamo Records and Interscope Records. On November 9th, 2018, Alamo/Interscope released Durk’s third studio album, Signed to the Streets 3. Young Dolph, Gunna, A Boogie with da Hoodie, Future, Kevin Gates, Lil Baby, Lil Skies, TK Kravitz, and Ty Dolla Sign all make cameos on the song. On August 2, 2019, Lil Durk’s fourth studio album, Love Songs 4 the Streets 2, was made available. It is a follow-up to his mixtape of the same name from 2017. 21 Savage, A Boogie with da Hoodie, Key Glock, King Von, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj all make cameos on it. 2020–present: Just Cause Y’all Waited 2, The Voice & 7220
On May 8, 2020, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2, Durk’s fifth album, was released. His second-highest charting single on the album is “3 Headed Goat,” with Polo G and Lil Baby. The Billboard 200 charted at number five on its debut. On June 26, 2020, the album’s deluxe edition with seven extra tracks was released, helping it reach a new peak of number two on the Billboard 200. Drake, a Canadian rapper, featured Lil Durk in his song “Laugh Now Cry Later” on August 14, 2020.
Lil Durk also originally hinted at an October 2020 release date on August 28, 2020, when he officially announced that a future project of his will is called “The Voice,” which would ultimately serve as the title track for his sixth studio album The Voice. Additionally, in the midst of their conflict, he first promised to drop new songs on the same day as rapper 6ix9ine’s second studio album, TattleTales. On September 4, 2020, the lead single from the album, the title track, and a music video were made available.
Additionally, Donda, Kanye West’s tenth studio album, was released on August 29, 2021. In the song “Jonah,” Durk makes a special appearance. He also appeared on the song “In the Bible” from Drake’s sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy. Which was released on September 3, 2021. In addition, on July 31, 2022, Durk made an announcement regarding his decision to stop performing and recording while he recovers from an event that occurred on July 30 in which an explosive firework struck him in the head. Durk suffered damage to his face and right eye in the incident, which happened during his performance at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.
