Bustamante is currently a contributor for NBC10 News. When she was a youngster attending Cabrini High School in New Orleans, Lucy volunteered at the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart’s nursing facility, the now-defunct Cabrini Convent for Retired Nuns in Radnor Township, Delaware County. “Back then, I fell in love with Philadelphia and always wanted to go back, “She stated. “I had no idea that God would bring this magnificent city—where I get to raise my family—back into our path.

Lucy formerly worked as the weekday morning and noon anchor at WVEC-TV in Norfolk, Virginia, before joining NBC10. Prior to that, she worked for three months straight as an evening anchor for WWL-TV in New Orleans, where she and her coworkers covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Lucy has received two Emmy awards. She received recognition for her role in directing the June 2019 explosion at the Philadelphia Energy Solutions plant in South Philadelphia. In 2011 for writing a documentary outlining the Affordable Care Act in Virginia, she won three regional Edward R. Murrow awards and numerous Associated Press awards for best anchor. She also won a Peabody Award in 2005 for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina and another one in 2004 for breaking news in New Orleans. Prior to that, she visited Cuba to report on the first governor-to-governor trade visit between Louisiana and Havana under President Bush. Additionally, she co-hosted LIVE with Regis and Kelly alongside Kelly Ripa and the late Regis Philbin.

Loyola University awarded Lucy a communications bachelor’s degree. Lucy is dedicated to helping military families and the Hispanic/Latinx community. She served as the first and outgoing president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Philadelphia Chapter.
