Meier attended the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in Wisconsin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications. He is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist who has worked in the Twin Cities market for three decades currently anchoring FOX 9’s 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news, as well as FOX 9 at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Meier began as the 10 pm anchor while anchoring and reporting on the 5 p.m. news on September 26, 2011. Previously, he served as an anchor for MSNBC for 3 years and later joined the network in 2003 from KSTP-TV in Saint Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota. Unfortunately, Randy exited on Friday, June 23, 2006, after MSNBC decided not to renew his contract. However, Meier was the long-time host of the morning edition of MSNBC Live and also spent several years anchoring and reporting in New York for NBC News.
Randy has made coverage through many of Minnesota’s biggest stories, like the kidnapping and discovery of Jacob Wetterling. Governor Jesse Venura’s time in the State Capitol and he was, like many, called a media jackal by the governor. Meier spent weeks reporting and covering Minnesota’s floods, fires, and tornados. In addition, he was on the Iron Range making coverage of the tragic loss of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone. Moreover, he is very active in numerous community and charity works/ events, helping to raise money for cancer research and outreach organizations.
