Rosaline Elbay is an Egyptian actress on stage and screen, producer, and writer popular for her current role as Judy Goodwin in the new Netflix series Kaleidoscope. Previously, her roles of interest included Amani on Hulu/A24 films comedy-drama series Ramy and Sara on the MBC Masr mysterious crime series Qabeel.

Elbay grew up speaking English, Arabic, and French which led to a theory that she is British, as a product of colonialism. She read classics and archaeology at Oxford University completing her masters in Colonial History. Moreover, Rosaline studied at the Actors Studio in New York City with Elizabeth Kemp before moving to her two year Master of Fine Arts in Acting at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) in Hammersmith, London.
Rosaline’s early career was in UK theatre, most frequently in the co-productions with Thelma Holt, a British theatre producer and former actress. Elbay starred in Diamond Dust, the feature-film adaptation of Ahmed Mourad’s best selling novel in 2018. She also starred on Fork & Knife which also premiered at the 2018 El Gouna Film Festival, Red Sea resort town of El Gouna, Egypt. Additionally, Elbay was the subject of the music video for Fakra, by Massar Egbari, an Egyptian band that was famous during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. As Amani in the Hulu/A24 film comedy-drama series, Ramy since 2019, the film by Ramy Youssef was a Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winning show. Season 2 of the film, co-starring Mahershala Ali, American actor, premiered in May 2020.
The same year in 2019, Rosaline also recieved critical praise for her Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region TV debut as Sara, the partner of protagonist Tarek aka Mohamed Mamdouh on MBC Masr’s Qabeel. She also won the Al-Wafd Critic’s Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best New Face. Furthermore, she also hosted the opening ceremony of the 2019 El Gouna Film Festival wearing a dress made of recycled plastic handworked by refugee women sponsored by the UNHCR. Since then, Elbay has continued advocating for the organisation and participating in the first MENA-region round table on The Role of Art and Culture in Addressing Displacement.
2020 Up to date
Described in MENA publications as an advocate for women’s rights, she has also contibuted to the cancellation of a 2020 concert by Saad Lamjarred, a Moroccan singer in subject of several rape accusations. Mada Masr published a personal op-ed by Elbay in response to the Egyptian MeToo movement in 2020. During the 40th and 41st Editions of The Cairo International Film Festival, Elbay was appionted as its face for young filmmakers. Further, Rosaline’s screenplay, Garlic was developed at the Festival’s TV development workshop. In MBC Masr’s 2020 series Forgetfulness (Luebet Al Nesyan) directed by Hani Khalifa, Elbay left the show mid-filming due to health reasons and rest of her role was shot with Asmaa Galal.
Rosaline revelead that she is starring in an animated role and executive producing an unnamed project in October 2021. The following year, same month, she starred off-Broadway in the world premiere of Dodi & Diana alongside her Kaleidoscope co-star Peter Mark Kendall
