She kept that letter for a few years in her underwear drawer.
Shaddox’s big break came when a new news director at Fox40 hired her because he was confident in her reporting skills and extensive network of sources. Working at the assignment desk gave Rowena experience in television, and six months later she started reporting in front of the camera. She is appreciative of her position as Solano County Bureau Chief today. She has reported on infamous killings and killers for the majority of the roughly 20 years that she has covered that county. Police gave her credit for clearing the murder of an innocent 21-year-old Fairfield man at the time.
She is renowned in the newsroom for securing the more difficult stories—the ones that include victims sobbing uncontrollably or suspect speaking out of the blue—and that other reporters dread covering. Her ability to hold her children, her confidence in God, and her ability to find solace in Him during a nighttime journey home are what keep her going, especially after holding a parent who has just lost their child or talking to someone whose innocent family member was killed in a horrific crime.
