To work as a pilot for KABC AM Radio, Scott relocated to Los Angeles in 1984. Scott agreed to work for California Federal Savings and Loan in 1987 as a corporate pilot, operating both a corporate jet and a helicopter. Scott Reiff’s lifesaving flight
Curling may not appear to be a risky sport at first appearance, but there is still a certain amount of risk. Sadly, Scott had to learn this the hard way. Scott was receiving a curling lesson from an Israeli Olympic curler while on a relaxing weekend break in Lake Tahoe, California. However, Scott’s vacation plans were quickly derailed when he slid and severely injured his head on the ice.
Scott was diagnosed with a cerebral contusion and brain hemorrhage after having a CT scan of his skull performed in the emergency room. If Scott’s inside injuries weren’t promptly and effectively treated, they may be fatal. Due to legitimate worries about brain swelling, Scott’s doctor asked that he be flown to a higher level of care. The call was answered by the staff at South Lake Tahoe’s CALSTAR-6.
I had the worst brain, Scott said. “But I knew I was in good care based on the prompt attention from the ER doctors and the CALSTAR flight crew, leave alone the kind of curling instructors,” the patient said. Scott was ultimately released to return home. Fortunately for him, there was very minor brain damage and his loss of smell was the only long-term consequence of his head injury.
