Shelley Childers is an American journalist born in Houston and raised in Katy. She works for ABC13 Eyewitness News since February 2018. Before coming to ABC13, she was in Detroit where she was covering the revitalization of Motown for 2 years. Shelly went to Taylor High School “Fighting Mustang” and Michigan State University grad.

Childers started her career in Midland-Odessa. She covered the performance of Texas’ oil country. She spent 7 days at MCRD San Diego experiencing the true feeling of what it takes to join the U.S Marine Corps while in west Texas.
Childers was working in Detroit where she was covering the revitalization of Motown for 2 years. She documented every step forward and the long journey ahead of the detrimental impacts of the Flint Water Crisis of Detroit. Also for the state take over for the Detroit public school system. The groundbreaking investment in driverless technology was also on the list, plus the new wave of enthusiasm for small business owners.
Prior to Detroit, Shelley spent many years along the Texas-Mexico border. Here she covered the explosive situation in the Rio Grande Valley. She worked for KRGV as a reporter, anchor, and bureau chief. Shelly covered everything, human smuggling, kidnappings, civilian militias, drug trafficking, and the 2014 humanitarian crisis.
With her, she brings accolades from the Texas AP Broadcasters, 3 rescue animals, her husband, and two children. She loves queso and she is very happy to be home in Space City. You can catch her at BBVA Compass Stadium cheering on the Dynamo most Saturday nights. Shelley joined Eyewitness News in February 2018.
